How to apply for an elective at Kanti
The medical elective course (MEC) offered at KCH
Foreign students may apply for entry to KCH to carry out their medical elective course. The duration of the elective period should be not less that 4 weeks. The fee for medical and nursing students is US$35 per week.
Application procedure
In the first instance application should be made in writing to:

Applications should be accompanied by a letter from the Director, Dean or Head of Department of the prospective candidates, verifying their bona-fide medical students status. The elective fee is payable on arrival at the hospital. Payment should be made out to the KCH Oncology Fund, Himalayan Bank, Maharajgunj Branch, Saving Account 001860-J (where payment is made by cheque/draft and not in cash).
Visa requirement
The KCH cannot in any circumstances apply to the immigration office for extension of the candidates visa beyond the time of the elective period (upon which basis the candidate has been accepted).
Health Care whilst in Kathmandu
Students experiencing ill health during the period of their elective will be referred for the necessary treatment to the nearby Teaching Hospital, to the Bir Hospital or to the Patan Hospital. Students are advised to have full medical insurance to cover their stay and travel whilst in Nepal.
Certificate of attendance
A certificate of attendance may be obtained with the consent of the consultant of the respective department in which the student has completed his/her medical elective.
Accommodation in Kathmandu
Responsibility for seeking accommodation remains with the student. On request KCH administrative personnel will attempt to advise/find accommodation for their stay in Kathmandu. Students are strongly advised to take special care to eat only at hygienic food centres and where cooked food is considered safe.
